Changing tides of passion and purpose

Have you noticed how your sense of purpose and passion keeps changing?

I’ve often felt that passion is the underlying emotion that fuels a sense of purpose.

Sense of purpose is that which gets you up in the morning with commitment, focus and excitement. Its that which doesn't give up even when the going gets tough. Its the 'why' of our existence.

We often associate passion with specific expressions—music, art, writing and so on. But when we define it too narrowly, we start identifying with a form rather than the essence of passion. This can create rigid beliefs that leave little room for change or innovation.

But what if passion isn’t tied to any one thing?

Perhaps we are simply drawn to certain expressions at different times in our journey. For a while, it may be music or service or learning—and then it shifts into something else. And that’s completely natural.

What I’ve noticed is that beneath all these changing expressions lies a common denominator—a deeper current that stays consistent through it all which provides a sense of direction. It might be self-inquiry, self-evolution, divine service, or community building etc.

The dance between surrender and focus

There have been many phases in my journey where both passion and purpose seemed absent for a while. During those times, life felt slower—less driven, less focused, less inspired. There might still be qualities like acceptance, bliss, and surrender in abundance, but something about the creative fire felt dimmed.

This has always led me to a deeper inquiry: how do we bring surrender and willpower together?

Without willpower, life can feel bland, monotonous, even listless. Without surrender, it can become rigid, overly controlled, or attached to outcomes.

Vehicles to express passion

The more we peel away the limiting beliefs about ourselves, the more we arrive at that sacred place — the felt sense of who we truly are. When we touch this place, there is a feeling of completeness, of arrival. It is a space of stillness, yet stillness here should not be mistaken for the absence of movement. From this stillness arises a deep yearning to share — a natural impulse that seeks a particular vehicle through which to express itself.

So, I wonder—what is your current vehicle of expression?
